At the heart of Innovation Village 2025, held in the historic Villa Doria D’Angri and hosted by the University of Naples Parthenope, the discussion on the future of flight took center stage. The high-level conference on Advanced Air Mobility, promoted by the Campania Aerospace Technology District (DAC) and chaired by Luigi Carrino, brought together top national players in the aerospace sector. A pivotal intervention came from Pierluigi Di Palma, president of ENAC – Italian Civil Aviation Authority, who outlined a clear and ambitious vision: Italy is ready to play a leading role in the global aerospace network.
Di Palma stressed the crucial role of public institutions in supporting a new air mobility model—one that is intelligent, sustainable, and seamlessly connected to the broader transportation ecosystem. Through its regulatory and technical framework, ENAC is actively contributing to the growth of the Advanced Air Mobility sector, defining innovative development paths in safety, sustainability, and interoperability.
Italy is gaining international recognition not only for its forward-thinking policies but also for its growing network of high-tech infrastructures. Among them, the Grottaglie Spaceport in Apulia stands out as a future hub for suborbital flight testing and advanced aerospace vehicle operations. Thanks to the strategic collaboration between DAC, the Italian Aerospace Research Center (CIRA), and the Apulian Aerospace District (DTA), Italy is on the front line of developing smart drones, autonomous aerial systems, and next-generation regulatory frameworks aligned with European standards.
During his speech, Di Palma publicly thanked Luigi Carrino for fostering strong synergy between academia, industry, and institutions—a “virtuous triangle” that he defined as the real force behind Italy’s emergence as a leader in the aerospace domain. This collaboration has become a reference model capable of driving competitiveness, innovation, and value creation across the entire country, especially in southern regions such as Campania and Apulia.
As the foundations are laid for a future filled with electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles (eVTOLs), logistics drones, and suborbital aircraft, Italy is firmly positioning itself as a leader in Advanced Air Mobility. These technologies will not only revolutionize how we move in urban and extra-urban contexts but will also bring significant benefits in terms of employment, environmental impact, and digital infrastructure. The sky of tomorrow will be populated with intelligent vehicles, and Italy is ready to navigate it—with innovation as its compass, the South as its launchpad, and the world as its destination.
