The global movement The Economy of Francesco (EoF) welcomed the election of Pope Leo XIV with heartfelt joy and renewed hope. It marked a new chapter for the community of young changemakers committed to building a more just, inclusive, and compassionate global economy. In its official message, the EoF Foundation expressed deep gratitude for Pope Francis, whose visionary leadership sparked the birth of the movement in 2019, and pledged its continued commitment alongside the newly elected Pontiff.
The choice of the name Leo XIV also evokes the figure of Brother Leo, the beloved companion of Saint Francis of Assisi, known for his tenderness and spiritual support. This powerful symbolic connection stirred emotion among the EoF youth, who see in the new Pope a kindred spirit in the journey toward an economy rooted in peace and justice.
Referencing the encyclical Rerum Novarum by Pope Leo XIII, Pope Leo XIV reaffirmed the core mission of EoF: advancing human dignity, social justice, and the rights of workers. These principles deeply align with the economic vision the Foundation has embraced—one that dismantles barriers and promotes solidarity as a foundation for lasting peace.
“In this new time,” young members declared, “we also want to walk as friends alongside Pope Leo XIV, building bridges of peace and trust.” This spirit will inspire the next global gathering in November 2025 titled Restarting the Economy—a pivotal moment for the EoF network to welcome new collaborators and expand its reach worldwide.
The Foundation will continue to merge economic science, spirituality, and action in the light of Evangelii Gaudium, Laudato Si’, Fratelli Tutti, and now, the vision of Pope Leo XIV. With participants from over 100 countries, 50 local hubs, and 12 thematic villages, The Economy of Francesco has become a living lab for rethinking economic relationships and giving soul to the future of our world.
Carrying forward the legacy of Pope Francis and inspired by the vision of Pope Leo XIV, the EoF journey continues as a movement of dialogue, justice, and fraternity. In service of the common good, the young protagonists of EoF remain faithful to the pact signed in Assisi in 2022 and are ready to embrace this new era of peace-led transformation.
