On Monday, May 5th, Kerry Kennedy, daughter of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and niece of former U.S. President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, visited the Spanish Quarters of Naples, stopping at Foqus on Via Portacarrese a Montecalvario—Italy’s second hub of the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation after Florence. The occasion marked the centennial of the Foundation, where Kerry serves as Honorary President, continuing her father’s legacy of defending human rights and fighting discrimination. The mission remains as vital as ever: building a more just and peaceful world by promoting educational resources on human rights and social justice, with a strong focus on dialogue and participation among children, educators, and schools.
The visit was celebrated with a special event hosted by Quostro, the vibrant bistrot nestled in the Foqus cloister. Known for its focus on sustainability and cultural innovation, Quostro took care of the catering and mise en place for the roughly one hundred guests in attendance. Resident chef Francesco Frascione, alongside his team, designed a visually stunning artistic table arrangement composed of seasonal vegetables, fruits, and flowers—a true expression of the Neapolitan land’s colors and flavors. The presentation reflected Quostro’s guiding philosophy: healthy, sustainable eating that honors local, seasonal ingredients.
The event drew a notable crowd of cultural and institutional figures, including Gaetano Manfredi, Mayor of Naples, Matteo Lorito, Rector of the University of Naples Federico II, Rosita Marchese, President of the Naples Academy of Fine Arts, lawyer Federica Faiella, President of the Cave Canem Foundation, and former mayor Antonio Bassolino, now a city council member. Educators and coordinators from Foqus’s educational programs, such as Maddalena Marciano and Enrica D’Aguanno, were also present.
Kerry Kennedy’s visit was much more than symbolic—it was a powerful gesture that connected the legacy of the Kennedy family with the contemporary challenges of urban regeneration and social inclusion. The Spanish Quarters, long a place of marginalization, stood out as a living lab for change, where community, education, and culture intersect. Thanks to Foqus and Quostro, the neighborhood welcomed a message of hope, dignity, and global solidarity—one bite, one story, one child at a time.
